Our team had no problem coming up with the idea for a 5k memorial run; the issue was what we wanted to do with the donations we planned to collect. Our top ideas included putting the money towards a memorial, scholarship funds, or giving back to families of the victims. Thankfully, our efforts to bring the Strides for Sandy Hook 5k to life brought us in contact with Newtown Parks & Recreation.
After talking with Parks & Rec, we decided to direct all donations from our event to the department’s Newtown Park Gift Fund, in honor and memory of Sandy Hook children and heroes. Any donation, no matter how big or small, will make a difference. We are happy to support the memorial fund and hope you will help rebuild our small, strong town.
